Commander's Message

Cdr. James Di Meo, AP

Updated: 04/28/2008

I would like to thank the membership of Staten Island Power Squadron for electing me. I will try to live up to the high standards of the previous Past Commanders. Joe David and Pat did a great job for the squadron and I look forward to their continued support. We have a good Bridge. There is a mix of younger and seasoned members.  We have many challenges ahead. Member involvement is one of them. We will try to get more members involved in the squadron. We need members to come to a meeting once a month or take a class once a year. If you have taken enough classes then it’s time to give back. Teach a class. If you can’t teach then be an assistant or table instructor. The picnics are a great time to get the family involved.  If you have any suggestions that you would like to see at a meeting or at the picnics you can e-mail me at jimd284@aol.com. As always when you e-mail me or any squadron member put SIPS in the subject heading. This way we know that the e-mail is from a friend and not the lawyer of your deceased uncle in Nigeria that left you a million dollars.  I am always open to suggestions. This is your squadron. Tell me what you would like to see to make it better.

The boating season is upon us. Now is the time to take what you have learned in the classroom and take it out to the water. I’ll remind everyone what I teach my Seamanship students, keep an eye on the weather, Stay away from tugboats and barges and go out and enjoy yourself and have a safe and pleasant trip. Stay Safe
