announced that Dennis was the D/4 Chapman Award honoree for “Excellence in
Teaching.” Dennis joins a proud list of previous SIPS winners (Gus
Ekelund, SN;

Hank Griffin,
SN; P/Lt/C
Al Zarr,
SN; and
Mack Zinn,
AP) as the D/4 “Teacher of the Year.”
When Stf/C Flo Smith presented the award,
she remarked that the competition for this honor was the tightest it had
been in many years. We’re happy that they selected Dennis, recognizing his
many years of outstanding teaching, and we’re grateful to his “fan club,”
recent students who had urged SIPS to nominate him and who then wrote very
strong letters of endorsement on his behalf.
